Potential Demand
The HSE Publishing House took part in the Frankfurt Book Fair which ran from October 13th to 18th this year.
The annual fair in Frankfurt on Main is perhaps the largest world publishing event and the main marketplace where publishing rights for literature are bought and sold. The Russian exposition presented books from more than 200 Russian publishers, but only a few of them had their own stands. Among these were three Russian universities - the Higher School of Economics, the Moscow State University and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Unlike the Russian universities, international educational establishments are traditionally widely represented in Frankfurt. For example, among the regular exhibition participants are Yalе University Press, Princeton University Press, Harvard University Press, Cambridge University Press, and many others.
In the German and Anglo-American exhibition halls, things were bustling. The schedule of meetings for managers wishing to discuss publishing rights is very tough. At the moment, for Russia, this is a long term goal. Nevertheless, the HSE stand presented scientific books and magazines published by the Higher School of Economics - those volumes have potential on the world market, although it is still too early to speak about the potential demand for Russian textbooks.
The HSE Publishing House has experience of selling international publishing rights for books, and for the first time we prepared a catalogue in English specially for the fair entitled 'Rights information', which presented publications that were being offered at the fair. You can download the catalogue from the HSE Publishing House website.
