On September 10, students, faculty, alumni, and viewers from all over the world will celebrate one of HSE’s biggest events together. This year, for the first time ever, HSE Day will be held online. Read on to find out what activities await guests on the four virtual stages of the online campus.

In the new academic year, first-year students in the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences will have the opportunity to work alongside senior students on joint projects that are both practice and research-oriented.

Many international students study at HSE University St. Petersburg's English-taught programmes. They come to Russia from different corners of the world for different reasons: to learn the Russian language, to live in a new place, or to immerse themselves in an intercultural environment. Several undergraduate students shared their impressions of studying at the university, interacting with classmates and lecturers, and living in St. Petersburg.

Though Mr. Floyd’s killing served as the immediate catalyst for the unrest, many scholars suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic crisis played a deeper, more pivotal role in creating conditions that led to the protests.

HSE University continues to climb the Moscow international university ranking, The Three University Missions (MosIUR), this year taking 120th place. The ranking became the most representative in the world this year – for the first time, the number of ranked universities reached 1,500.

This year, the ICEF Conference on Applied Economics will be held online for the first time ever. On September 12, experts from around the world will discuss the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy. The HSE International Summer University completed its 2020 session on August 20. Due to the pandemic, the programme was held online for the first time. Students from all over the world met on Zoom to study Russian language as well as take a variety of subject specific courses and participate in informal activities.

Almost 77% of households in Russia have access to the Internet. This is not an outstanding result compared to other countries—for instance, in South Korea, 99% of families have access to the Internet. Russia's lag is caused not by technical problems with connectivity, but by the reluctance of 16.3% of households to go online. This is stated in the digest Digital Economy Indicators :2020, released by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge.
