‘After a Year of Studying Here, I Can Say that HSE is a Free and Modern University’
Applications are underway for the HSE International Olympiad (HSE INTO), which is now available in Russian, English, and French. Winners of this competition can study at HSE University for free. The registration deadline is September 30th, 2022. The HSE News Service talked to some HSE University students who won admission as part of the Olympiad about their experiences.
The HSE International Olympiad has been running for eight years in various countries. The participants can choose up to five of 16 subject areas. Winners of the Olympiad can get free tuition or grants covering up to 75% of the tuition cost.

I have been studying at HSE University for a year already: I was enrolled as a result of the 2020 HSE INTO, where I took second place with my creative project.
The Olympiad gave me an opportunity to master the profession I wanted in Russia at the country’s best university, and I decided to jump at this chance
I chose to enter the HSE University in Moscow, since it is one of the world’s best cities, and after a year here, I now understand that I would like to stay on and live in Moscow!

Why do international students at HSE University decide to pursue a career in academia? What fields in economics are relevant to PhD students? Richard Asiamah from Ghana and Alesya Bukreeva from Uzbekistan are current master’s students at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, but have already received scholarships from the faculty to continue their studies as doctoral students at the university. Where Languages and Cultures Meet
The Bachelor’s in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication combines traditional approaches to foreign language teaching with innovative educational practices. The programme has attracted a lot of international students thanks to the opportunity to enrol in the English track and study all its courses in English. 'Now I Am Ready to Endlessly Sing the Praises of the Tasks of HSE International Olympiad'
The Bachelor's programme 'Philology' welcomes both Russian and international students. We talked to Mikhail Beshimov, who entered HSE University-St Petersburg via the HSE International Olympiad and came to study from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. From Summer Schools to a Supercomputer: HSE Delegation Visits Uzbekistan
An official HSE University delegation representing all four campuses visited Uzbekistan from October 3–6. HSE managers, teachers and researchers met with their peers from partner universities and government agencies to outline new areas of cooperation, discuss joint projects, programmes, and activities for students, and hold lectures and master classes. Deadline for HSE INTO Extended
The registration deadline for the HSE International Olympiad has been extended until December 18, 2022. The competition will take place on January 16–29, 2023.
‘I See that Senior Students and HSE University Staff Are the Kind of People You Can Rely on’
How do I find my way between numerous HSE campuses? How will I survive if I don’t speak any Russian? What is a polite way of addressing my professors? These are only a few of the questions international students have when they come to study at HSE University. At the beginning of the new academic year, HSE University is running a series of Orientation Sessions for new international students to address these questions and help them settle into their life in Moscow.
